We use several factors in estimating the size each puppy will be as an adult. Including weight at birth, body size, head size, past puppies from the same parents, the weight of the parents as adults and experience.
This is a commonly used chart to help estimate the size these puppies will mature to as adults. This is only a rough estimate used by many experienced Imperial Shih Tzu breeders. Diet, eating habits, metabolism and exercise helps determine weight as well.
At 8 weeks of age take the puppy's exact weight and multiply by 3.
10 weeks x 2 and add 1 pound
12 weeks x 2
The older the puppy the more accurate his/her weight can be estimated to be as an adult. An Imperial Shih Tzu can 1 to 2 pounds from the age of 6 months to adulthood. The above chart is an estimation. The weight of the puppy's parents and grandparents should also be taken into consideration. The most important thing to know is that no one is able to know exactly what a puppy will weigh at adulthood. All any breeder can do is give you their best educated guess.
